Parathyroid Cyst

Abstract
Enlarged cystic parathyroid glands, whether hyperfunctioning or nonfunctioning, are rare, about 200 cases have been reported in the world literature19) and their accurate preoperative diagnosis is a diffcult task,
Although rare, parathyroid cyst should be considered in the differential diagnosis of cysts in the anterior compartment of neck(esp. thyroid cyst). Sugery has been the usual treatment of such cysts, but several reports have been published in
which
repeated aspiration resulted in the disappearence of the cyst. If conservative treatemtn of parathyroid cyst is unsucessful, the cyst should be removed.
The authors report a case of patient with cystic neck mass, studied by thyroid function test, neck ultrasonogram and thyroid scan. The diagostic consensus of preoperative studies were that the lesion was thyroid cyst.
Surgical removal and histopathologic examination of the mass revealed a cystic parathyroid.
